It was the early summer. I was studying for my last exam of the semester, and it was a difficult one. I spent almost the whole day in my room behind the books. Now it was already late afternoon and the rumbling in my stomach reminded me I should better head downstairs and find something in the fridge.
I was walking down the stairs to the hallway, when I heard some unfamiliar sounds. I stopped for a moment and listened. Then I continued to descend step by step, very carefully not to make any noise.
