Erotic comics as classic erotic literature?

I'm just curious. Can certain comic books be considered erotic or pornographic?--in the classic sense? I've seen some erotic comics that I would consider classical erotica. But maybe they're not considered erotic in the classic sense. I don't know--I'm just asking.

The book "No Water for Elephants" mentions erotic comics several times. I can't remember now what they're called but, they had a name. Apparently they were usually crudely drawn pages, 8 or 10 in number, of a short erotic story. I think it's almost like flash fiction done in pictures.

Well, there are actually some artits who are drawing erotic and pornographic comics in an old style. But there are quite new. The oldest sort of this kinda stuff was first createded in the 1930s. In former centuries there were only lonly pictures and paintings. And of course erotic literature.
