Seperation/Request
You ask for a poem, "Write one for me."
I hear your voice but you're hard to see.
I cannot write one just for you, for can't you see,
I write one of these for everyone.
My world is a small one
filled with soft blue,
there are shadowed paths
I fear to walk through.
Would you like to explore
a cavern I know?
If we could only throw away
the yoke of these civilized games we play,
we could be together,
but you're in a different world
and I am far away.
Again I hear your request, "Write a poem for me."
I say to you, you are part of the poem
I am writing here.
The song I sing
is a mournful whisper
of a long ago time
when you and I could move
beneath the silent living tree.
To feel those half-forgotten passions
rise from the grave,
to be with you again
through this long dark age.
But your face is hard to find,
though I try to freeze it in my mind,
if we could only break these chains of pride,
we could move together.
But separation has come
and you are far away.
W e can never stay long.
Drifting from you
into a world of blue,
losing direction.
You ask for a poem, "Write one for me."
