I am just playing around with this idea for a story and I was wondering if people thought it was worth developing. Here is a rough draft. Does it sound plausible and is it an interesting idea.
I would probably write a story in first person but this draft is in third person.
Scotty, as his friends call him, likes to think outside the box. He generally works hard for what he gets in life but occasionally he gets ahead by resorting to a little scheming. The plan he has worked out this time involves having sex with a stripper without paying large sums of money or chance getting arrested for solicitation.
Tuesday afternoon he goes to a Dance club aka strip club. He sits off away from the stage and scopes out the place for a bit not paying particular attention to any of the strippers. In fact he even politely excuses himself from talking to a few of them. After a while though the one he has his eye on comes over and sits down.
They talk for a few minutes and when asked he gives her ambiguous answers about his job and why he is there and she starts to wonder what he is about. Eventually he spills all and offers to tell her his brief life story under one condition - that she shares hers with him too; the true one including her real name rather than her stage name. His hobby is hearing people's life stories.
Of course everything he says next couldn't be farther from the truth. He tells her that he is just there on business (which is why he is drinking coke and not liquor).
He used to be an adult film photographer until he caught Bell's Palsy on location in Tahiti and it messed up his color vision. Now he sees everything like a faded poster and of course as a photographer that was a major disability that caused him to be moved to another position as Director of Cinematography. He stayed on as director for a few more months when nature dealt another sever blow within the same year; his wife was stricken with MS and now resides in a nursing home where she doesn't even know what day it is.
He had to quit his job and now he is the owner of a small modeling agency that employs just 12 photographers. The agency shoots pornographic auditions and then brokers them out to major porn agencies. Unlike other scam modeling agencies they never make the models pay to have their pictures taken and never trick the models into taking expensive classes that never pay off, in fact. they always pay the models a modest $50 per hour for the auditions. The real money comes later if a model is picked up by a major agency and then they earn about $400 per hour for a few hours per day.
The only reason he is in town is because he is scouting a location for an upcoming film that will be shot in an adult dance club. This club will not work out because there is not enough room for the camera tracks to be laid down.
Having to start over in his career after so many years has provided some much needed excitement and challenges in life. So there is a silver lining in everything. Of course it never hurts that he made lots of friends as he climbed the corporate ladder. In fact, his new business would not be doing so well if he did not know the heads of most of the major porn agencies in the market. Also, if he had not always treated the actresses so nice in an industry where they were often treated crappy they would probably not be so good to him. For example, when his wife got sick he did not know if he would be able to cope with it but his coworkers have been very supportive. In fact for twenty years he never touched another woman other than his wife and even though she made him promise to divorce her when she no longer had her mind he never did so she could keep the insurance benefits and stay in the good rooms in the nursing home. But oddly a few of the actresses all decided at the same time that their friendship should include "benefits". He thinks they took pity on him and had a meeting to decide how to help him out. The opposite side of the coin is the girls who want to make it big and they think that if they treat the couch in his office like a casting couch they can convince him to give them a break. He supposes they are just using him and he supposes that it seems to be working for them as they do get noticed and given jobs they otherwise might not be gikven, but he doesn't mind.
He now asks to hear her story. He has paid little attention to any of the girls in the club and has not even noticed this girls body at all. In fact he seems only to be interested in what she has to say. He is a really good listener and seems to really care to know what she has to say. She is not used to that and it strikes a chord in her. The whole time he listens to her story he tells her when she did the right thing by taking chances just to find out what could be.
If she spins it so that she appears to be selling herself to the owner of an adult modeling agency he knows she is interested. And he will subtly let her make a play to audition for him on his casting couch. If she tells her story as if she has some other motive then he will let her move on still showing no interest.
She is interested and he arranges to pick her up so they can go to a hotel room to be friends. He arrives in a rented car and they go to the hotel of her choice. Casually he mentions that they could have picked a much better hotel but since they are there...
The story then describes the sex.
Then they sit down and have a meeting in which he gives her the inside scoop about the porn industry. This time however he tells the ugly truth and she decides she is not interested in persuing a career in porn.
